Hoop Weekend 1/8/2010 - 1/10/2010

hoop_weekend.JPG

I'm headed to Lexington, Kentucky today to hang with the crew from Stadium Drives. If I survive Friday night/Saturday morning, I'll be off to the Georgia/Kentucky game on Saturday. Doesn't leave a lot of time for updating, so here's the whole wad.

I love this time of year, because Friday night becomes ESPNU small conference night. Getting a chance to see rivalries from the Big West, Horizon, and MAAC is a treat afforded to us by this little branch of the ESPN empire, and I thank them for it. It was on one such night that I first sighted Big Lumber, and my life has never been the same since.

What They're Saying About STF

And the winner, with nine points and an almost unheard-of upsetting of Livia's mom, soon to be proud recipient of the Sleepover of the Damned trophy (under construction) and a Slap Ya Mama gift basket is ... a basketball writer? Stranger things have happened (like no shots of Kim Kardashian during the entire game broadcast), but not many. Our sincere congratulations to Eric "ExtraP" Angevine, and we'll see all y'all next January. Stay sharky.

I Don't Mind Hitting Bottom, I Just Hate Dragging
Kennesaw State head coach Tony Ingle has been called "The Will Rogers of Basketball". This book, co-written by Kyle Whelliston, proves that statement again and again. As the Georgia-born Ingle says at one point in the book: "It was just like Hoosiers, but with thicker accents." A great read.

If you're not a member of Basketball State, you're missing out. We can rectify that problem you're having. Just head over to BB State and join up, using the special code for STF readers: bigant. It's good for two bucks off the cover price, and in this economy, you're going to need it. It's good all season long, so you have no excuse. Don't make us sic Guillermo on you.
