As home to Boeing (well, not anymore) the West Coast should specialize in high-flying machines. Here are a few of the names you'll probably see on SportsCenter this year.
Paul George, Fresno St.
The 6'7", 190 lb. George isn't just a phenomenal dunker, he's a potential top-ten NBA pick. For now, he's using his NBA athleticism against mid-major conference guards, which really isn't fair. Here, George soars over a St. Mary's guard (not Patty Mills).
Sacramento State was 2-27 last year, but George's dunk over two Hornets was their greatest indignity.
Keion Bell, Pepperdine
Pepperdine's athletic department asked Bell, a 6'3", 200 lb. guard who made the WCC preseason all-conference team, what he likes most about basketball. Said Bell: "That you can be having a bad day, and the game of basketball gives you a chance to let out all of that frustration by crossing, stopping, blocking or dunking on someone." In this year's annual Blue and Orange Madness practice event, Bell relieved his frustrations with an Evel-Knievel-esque dunk over five teammates.
Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Washington
Bryan-Amaning (a.k.a. "MBA") makes this list for three reasons: 1) To represent the big man (he's 6'9", 240); 2) Because I'm a Husky fan; and 3) Due to the complete pandemonium this dunk causes. It's not much of a dunk, MBA just beats a guy on a crossover, drives and packs it. But he does this in England. Watch the crowd reaction. They look like they've just watched a man destroy the sun. Fantastic.
Bonus dunk: Here's MBA getting dunked over, as fellow Husky Isaiah Thomas reenacts former Husky Nate Robinson's 2009 NBA Slam Dunk Contest-winning dunk at this year's UW Midnight Madness. Bryan-Amaning plays the role of Dwight Howard. Listen to coach Lorenzo Romar's trepidation before Thomas attempts the dunk.
